What do my kids want for Christmas? That is what everyone wants to know. Have they been good this year? If they have been good Santa will bring them what they wish for, right? Here is the thing though - my kids each have gifts, unopened, sitting in their closets, or gathering dust under their beds, from last year. To be clear, they are incredibly grateful for what they have - they just do not necessarily want it.
One year I encouraged my friends and family to give them experiences, preferably something they could do together. Two people did. Two people decided that that they would rather spend time with my kids instead of spend money on them.
Everyone is busy – even more so around the holidays, so I can understand that it’s easier to buy things on sale and online off of a specific list per kid. But personally, I am counting down the years until we can just pass on the presents and take a family trip. When our Christmas gifts will gather memories, not dust.
