Black Lives Matter

Protests have erupted across America, and the world, in the wake of the agonizing death of Eric Garner... I mean Tamir Rice... I mean Breonna Taylor... I mean Philando Catille... I mean Ariane McCree... I mean Botham Jean... I mean E.J. Bradford... I mean Michael Brown... I mean Michael Dean... I mean Jamee Johnson... I mean Antwon Rose... I mean Stephon Clark... I mean George Floyd at the hands of police officers.
As I left to participate in a locally organized protest in my town my partner told me that I shouldn't go. That I could get hurt. I was taken aback. This person claimed to support the same issues that I did, so how could they insist that I should 'sit this one out'? I can only imagine that the feeling of fear in leaving the house to participate in a peaceful task is what BIPOC individuals feel everyday in this society. I marched through my mostly white town with police blocking traffic for the protestors. My partner's fear was not warranted; sadly too many Black families can't say the same.
Black Lives Matter.
